We love our city and the people in it. But loving from afar and wishing it well in thought only isn’t our jam. We are doers. We are movers and shakers. We are “Hey! You! Come make this world a better place with us!” types.

And we’ve seen the same in all of you, which is why we take the role of community change agents so seriously. To ensure our community outreach efforts are intentional and effective, we’ve called on the bright light that is stylist Lauren Cockerham. Let’s chat with her, shall we?

Q: Can you tell us about your new role as Community Liaison at Ginger Salon?

A: As a Certified B Corporation, Ginger Salon is held to the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability. B Corps form a community of leaders and drive a global movement of people using business as a force for good. My mission is to get Ginger Salon out into the community donating & volunteering wherever possible.

My role will include researching charities and choosing where we'll focus our attention, as well as managing Ginger's overall community involvement agenda. I plan to have discussions with our staff members to find out what they're passionate about and what they stand for, in hopes that we can translate those passions into helping others.

Q:  What do you hope to see happen through your work as Community Liaison?

A: My hope is that we're able to give back to our community in any way possible - whether that's helping in a substantial way or just helping one person. I hope that Ginger Salon can create a culture of empathy and continue to strive for knowledge and education. Everyone has room to grow. On a personal level, I hope to step outside of myself and think about ways I can help others.

Q: What is your driving motivation or inspiration for doing work that supports a thriving community?

A: When you give back, you're putting in motion the type of community you want to live in. If you do nothing, nothing will change. You have to put in the work.

Q: Do you have a favorite quote that speaks to the importance of giving back to the community we live in?

A: “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” Aesop
