Deanna's haircut pricing starts at $84.
Oh hey! I’m Deanna Everson, owner of Ginger Salon. Since I’m the owner, I get to write in first person because A: I wanted to meet you and B: I wanted to share one of my greatest loves: Oregon.
Okay, seriously, I love hair, but I also adore Oregon. It’s why I opened a salon here at the height of the financial crisis because I think Portland deserves great hair to go with all of the other wonderful things about this place: trees, rain, mountains, the ocean, big hearts about the environment, laid-back vibes about living, good food and great people with even better ideas for pretty much everything. You know, the kind of people who want fabulous hair even when it rains 70% of the year. (Don’t worry – we've got you.)
I started with a career in psychology with a degree from Portland State University but switched after a seriously botched bang trim fifteen years ago – and I’ve never looked back. I traveled, trained, and have been cutting hair and bringing the fabulous at my home away from home, Ginger Salon, even since.
I’m a ginger. I’m also a self-professed nerd who attends Sci Fi conventions on one day and high school dance team competitions on another. I love natural redheads, Creamsicles, the Uma Thurman Pulp Fiction dance and probably you.
I’m also the owner of Ginger, trainer for all of Ginger Salon’s New Talent Stylists, a genius stylist (ask anyone!) and a hair coloring specialist. (I’m no slouch.)
10 Things You Didn’t Know (and maybe don’t need to know) about Deanna!
- I sang the star spangled banner at Candlestick Park.
- I’m a card carrying tribal member of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe.
- I HOSTED my 20-year high school reunion and changed lives. (So many hook ups.)
- My junior high nickname was firecrotch. (Rude!)
- My preschool best friend is now my kid’s nanny. The same person who almost and by total accident burned down a forest with me in 7th grade.
- I still hang out with my freshman-year locker partner. She used to wear pearls every day. She still does.
- During my first divorce year I flipped tires during Crossfit classes. The second year I decided that was stupid and became a member of six wineries. Choices.
- I’ve driven 24 hours nonstop to get to Disneyland. It’s important.
- I host EPIC Halloween parties every year. Halloween is my holiday. If I can’t scare a group of 5th grade boys, what’s the point?
- My cat is famous. He was in a TV commercial for the Oregon Lottery. Someone held an umbrella over him while we walked around and another person kept yelling “quiet on the set for SEYMOUR!” Boss.
Stina's haircut pricing starts at $84.
Stina started beauty school the week of her 17th birthday, completely oblivious of what hair styling looked like as a career but looking to do something with herself, as luck would have it, she loved it.
From there she went on to a high-end salon in the Portland suburbs to do an intense apprenticeship for 2 years that was heavy in education (and emotional torment, but more about that later). During that time two major life events happened; She went to Toronto, Ontario to do 2 weeks at a Vidal Sassoon Academy where she learned the beauty of presion cutting. AND. She met Deanna Everson, the soon-to-be owner of Ginger Salon.
Since then she has been gobbling up all the education she could, be it classic cuts like aforementioned Vidal or more trendy color classes with various lines, like Pravana's creative colors and Goldwells custom formulations with Global Educators. Not to mention some really fun and fabulous styling classes with lot of product emphasis. She has been working exclusively with Kevin Murphy products and will soon be diving into working with their color line.
Because of Stina’s previous experience at her apprenticeship salon she has strived to partner with Ginger Salon to create a safe team atmosphere for all employees. She likes to take classes about empowering women and nonviolent communications and dabbles in some business management. As the Stylist manager she spends time working with the amazing team that is Ginger Salon, to help fulfill career goals while maintaining a work life balance.
Currently Stina is on her 11th year of hair and 9 years with Ginger. In those 9 years she has done countless classes, became a stylist manager, and as of 2018 became a co-owner of Ginger Salon.
In her personal life, she is an avid reader and always looking to go on a new adventure with her long time partner, Cliff and their son, Ellis (3).
You might know Darren by his distinct vocal stylings on the Ginger Salon phone. With Taylor by his side he is able to make sure Ginger Salon runs like a well oiled machine. From making sure the salons are stocked with all the essentials, to answering your calls, and even running personal errands for our fearless leader, Deanna, he does it all. We are not only blessed to have him but you are blessed to know him.

As the community liaison for Ginger Salon, Molly works with neighborhood and business associations, creating opportunities for Ginger employees to give back to the Portland community in a meaningful way.
Molly grew up in Northern California and moved to Denver right out of high school, where she went to beauty school and started her career. When she decided that she had her fill of snow and needed a little more moisture in the air she and her daughter packed up and came to the Pacific Northwest. If Jillian Michaels and Martha Stewart had a baby it would be her spirit animal. Abigail's haircut pricing starts at $84.
Abigail arrived in Portland in 2008, a proud transplant from Kansas City, Missouri.
She began her craft over 15 years ago at The Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, California. The foundation of her approach is precision-based haircutting and integrity-based hair coloring techniques. She views cyber-education as revolutionary to the hair industry, and learns something new to share with her clients every day. Her desire to surround herself with the best, and her commitment to lessen her global footprint, are what brought her to the classy, sassy, earth-friendly, Ginger Salon!
Abigail has a special love for the curly girls and especially enjoys creating lived-in, modern hair shapes, and fresh, graceful color. She considers herself a “scalp whisperer” for the angry and the itchy, the oily and the flared up scalps running around all over the Portland-metro. Clients rave about her scalp massages and love that it's okay to be quiet in her chair.
In her free time, Abigail enjoys spending her summers lounging on river rocks, her winters reading, rainy days on bicycle, and sunny days in bed. She is a Capricorn, who makes quick decisions about hair, and slow decisions about everything else in life. It took her 9 years to decide to apply to Ginger Salon.
You could say she's pretty happy to be here.
Emily's haircut pricing starts at $84.
Emily was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, and got started in the beauty industry as an after school job. After a couple years, she realized she preferred her job to her chosen college major and in 2012 she moved to Portland to attend the Aveda Institute Portland.
After graduating from AIP, Emily started her year long apprenticeship at Ginger, where she studied under Deanna and Stina. To wrap up her apprenticeship, she completed Vidal Sassoon’s ABC cutting course. While Emily has completed many educational courses by Goldwell and Kevin Murphy, her favorite yet has been the Master Colorist course by Goldwell in Santa Monica. She spent the class experimenting with color, fine tuning formulations, and learning to think outside of the norm. In 2019, she became assistant manager at Ginger Salon.
Emily’s favorite thing about her job is the community of women, including the Ginger family and her clients. “I’m always thinking of ways to make my clients lives easier when it comes to their look. Embracing their natural texture or finding a way to do what they do more simply can save so much time and allow them more time to take on the world.”
A naturally curly girl herself, Emily spent her life straightening her hair and hating the frizz. She even tried to cut her curls off as a child. Guess how that turned out? Now she loves to help her clients find what works best for them and their lifestyle.
When Emily isn’t at work, she loves to explore Portland’s food scene, go to the dog park with her pug Brew, and in the summer, you can catch this Alaskan by any nearby body of water. She’s always talking about the newest show or documentary she’s seen, podcast she’s listening to, or book she’s reading for book club.

Beau's haircut pricing starts at $63.
14 years ago and 1,100mi south of here in San Diego, the beauty industry gained a Beau.
Yes it’s his real name, no it’s not short for anything.
He’s the guy who’s had his hands in all things beauty since then which is how a real Gemini rolls. If there’s an interesting new hat to be worn he’s bound to try it out...sewing, wake surfing, swapping out light fixtures, whatevs.
Like it tends to do, the PNW beckoned as a new frontier and he loves exploring its unique charms. He didn’t see snow until he was 26, but don’t hold that against him.
Spending 7 years as a certified educator for Aveda means he always has a trick up his sleeve and delivers Portland’s finest the custom, clean, wearable styles they’ve been looking for. Beau doesn’t specialize in one thing, he specializes in everything. (#murillomethod)
When not connecting with clients he’s fond of driving around town with coffee and OPB* on the radio, all things Michael Crichton and being a single parent to Earnest the cat.
*the same 90’s jams he hasn’t stopped listening to since middle school.
Kady's haircut pricing starts at $63.
I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. I graduated from Beau Monde Academy of Cosmetology in 2018.
Growing up I loved experimenting with mine and my sisters hair, I was always trying out different hair colors and convincing them to let me cut their hair. As I got older, and went to school my passion for hair grew stronger. I love making people feel excited about their locks! My favorite things to do are: blonding, dimensional color, and cutting! I LOVE tousled and textured hair.
Outside of work, my favorite thing to do is spend time with my family, take tons of pictures of my dogs, (80% of my camera roll is of my dogs - no shame) and binge watch medical dramas.
Lauren's haircut pricing starts at $63.
After beginning college and not really knowing what direction to take in life, Lauren landed a position in a salon as a front desk staff member. She was intrigued and mesmerized by all things hair, and immediately wanted to learn more. In 2008 Lauren enrolled in the Barber Apprenticeship Program and never looked back. In the program she learned everything from clipper cutting to special event styling. After completing the two year program, Lauren began her career in the hair industry. She loves helping a guest reach their final goal and giving them all the tools, knowledge, and steps to achieve success. Lauren has a passion for blonde hair, and loves helping clients achieve the perfect blonde while keeping hair health and integrity a top priority. She wants clients to realize you can look as blonde as Cameron Diaz without having to put every hair in a foil (but if you want to put every hair in a foil, that's okay, too!)
Born and raised in Louisiana, Lauren has a love for good food. When she isn't at work making clients feel like their best self, she's in the kitchen trying out new recipes or making some of her faves. Before leaving Louisiana for the PNW in 2019, she had her mom teach her how to make a few southern comfort food staples. If anyone needs a bowl of gumbo, she's your girl.
Lauren likes to plan parties and have friends over for game nights. Really, she's just a fan of a theme. If you see her on or around a holiday, she'll more than likely be dressed accordingly.
Lauren decided to make Ginger her new home because they embody her same core values. Ginger prioritizes continuing education, and she is eager to continue learning and growing her craft. Lauren wants to leave the world a better place than what she found it, and Ginger's commitment to protecting the environment and giving back to the community is exactly what Lauren is focused on.
May's haircut pricing starts at $42.
Before beginning her apprenticeship at Ginger Salon, Abbi May had explored many paths, most of which had nothing to do with hair or working in the beauty industry. Although she had always wanted to do hair and makeup, she went to the University of Oregon and received a Bachelor's Degree in Humanities. After teaching preschool for a year, she realized all she ever thought about other than work was doing hair. So, she started school at the Aveda Institute Portland and became licensed in October 2019.
Upon learning about Ginger, Abbi May was in love with the salon after her first job shadow at the NE location. A strong emphasis on education as well as environmental and community responsibility were really important to her and Ginger Salon ticked both of those boxes, plus more! Behind the chair, she loves doing all kinds of hair cuts, especially pixies and short cuts.
When she's not at the salon, you can find Abbi May hanging out with her longtime boyfriend, Chris and their cat Fiona. She also enjoys drinking way too much coffee, doing the occasional craft, and finding the best vegan mac and cheese in Portland.
When Carrie was very young, she only had one doll that had not received a custom cut and smelly marker lowlights. By age 12, her mom had to stop her from chasing her little sister around with scissors saying, “I need to try layers...”
Also as a youngin, Carrie began taking ballet classes. She continued this practice throughout her life and contributes a fair amount of her focus, discipline and attention to detail to this training. It also instilled in her a desire to be a lifelong learner and teacher. (She has been teaching ballet to teens and adults since 2004.)
Carrie got her initial cosmetology training in Southern California, apprenticing in a high quality, busy salon to over 40 stylists. This opportunity provided a wealth of experience and exposure. During her time in SoCal, Carrie was able to be trained at Vidal Sasson, (which changed her life like no other,) Toni & Guy, Bumble and Bumble, Kerastase and Paul Mitchell.
Once falling in love with the magic that is Portland, Carrie, her husband and pets moved up in 2013. They spent a year in NW living the city life, but have since cozied up in NE Cully where they garden as much as possible and enjoy the mellow vibes. She spent her first four years in Portland educating and building curriculum for the Aveda Institute and Summit Salon Academy. Not only did she get spoiled with more fantastic education and technique, but she connected with people who would ultimately lead her here to Ginger Salon!
Carrie’s Sicilian great grandfather had always been known to the family as a professional opera singer. Just a few years ago, Carrie received some interesting news. A cousin had made a phenomenal family tree, and found some great old pictures. Apparently, when Great Grandma had had enough of her hubby living the show-biz life, all the late nights and traveling, his answer was to open a barber shop. Carrie now has a picture of Great Grampa cutting in his white coat on his checkerboard floors back in the 1930’s... So it seems it's been in her blood all along!
In 2018, Carrie was itching to get back behind the chair to work on her own clients again. In an effort to become as well rounded as possible, she ventured to a well known African American barber shop off Alberta. While there, she perfected her fades, straight razor shaves, croquet dreadlocking techniques and cutting extremely curly textures.
Now, you can come to her for ANYTHING, however, she specializes in the extremes. Extremely precise shapes or colors, extremely long, short, curtly, textured, straight, fragile, resistant and unruly hair is her friend. She wants you to have dreamy hair that takes very little maintenance and grows out oh so well!
