Oh hey! I’m Deanna Everson, owner of Ginger Salon. Since I’m the owner, I get to write in first person because A: I wanted to meet you and B: I wanted to share one of my greatest loves: Oregon.
Okay, seriously, I love hair, but I also adore Oregon. It’s why I opened a salon here at the height of the financial crisis because I think Portland deserves great hair to go with all of the other wonderful things about this place: trees, rain, mountains, the ocean, big hearts about the environment, laid-back vibes about living, good food and great people with even better ideas for pretty much everything. You know, the kind of people who want fabulous hair even when it rains 70% of the year. (Don’t worry – we've got you.)
I started with a career in psychology with a degree from Portland State University but switched after a seriously botched bang trim fifteen years ago – and I’ve never looked back. I traveled, trained, and have been cutting hair and bringing the fabulous at my home away from home, Ginger Salon, even since.
I’m a ginger. I’m also a self-professed nerd who attends Sci Fi conventions on one day and high school dance team competitions on another. I love natural redheads, Creamsicles, the Uma Thurman Pulp Fiction dance and probably you.
I’m also the owner of Ginger, trainer for all of Ginger Salon’s New Talent Stylists, a genius stylist (ask anyone!) and a hair coloring specialist. (I’m no slouch.)
10 Things You Didn’t Know (and maybe don’t need to know) about Deanna!
- I sang the star spangled banner at Candlestick Park.
- I’m a card carrying tribal member of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe.
- I HOSTED my 20-year high school reunion and changed lives. (So many hook ups.)
- My junior high nickname was firecrotch. (Rude!)
- My preschool best friend is now my kid’s nanny. The same person who almost and by total accident burned down a forest with me in 7th grade.
- I still hang out with my freshman-year locker partner. She used to wear pearls every day. She still does.
- During my first divorce year I flipped tires during Crossfit classes. The second year I decided that was stupid and became a member of six wineries. Choices.
- I’ve driven 24 hours nonstop to get to Disneyland. It’s important.
- I host EPIC Halloween parties every year. Halloween is my holiday. If I can’t scare a group of 5th grade boys, what’s the point?
- My cat is famous. He was in a TV commercial for the Oregon Lottery. Someone held an umbrella over him while we walked around and another person kept yelling “quiet on the set for SEYMOUR!” Boss.

Stina started beauty school the week of her 17th birthday, completely oblivious of what hair styling looked like as a career but looking to do something with herself, as luck would have it, she loved it.
From there she went on to a high-end salon in the Portland suburbs to do an intense apprenticeship for 2 years that was heavy in education (and emotional torment, but more about that later). During that time two major life events happened; She went to Toronto, Ontario to do 2 weeks at a Vidal Sassoon Academy where she learned the beauty of presion cutting. AND. She met Deanna Everson, the soon-to-be owner of Ginger Salon.
Since then she has been gobbling up all the education she could, be it classic cuts like aforementioned Vidal or more trendy color classes with various lines, like Pravana's creative colors and Goldwells custom formulations with Global Educators. Not to mention some really fun and fabulous styling classes with lot of product emphasis. She has been working exclusively with Kevin Murphy products and will soon be diving into working with their color line.
Because of Stina’s previous experience at her apprenticeship salon she has strived to partner with Ginger Salon to create a safe team atmosphere for all employees. She likes to take classes about empowering women and nonviolent communications and dabbles in some business management. As the Stylist manager she spends time working with the amazing team that is Ginger Salon, to help fulfill career goals while maintaining a work life balance.
Currently Stina is on her 11th year of hair and 9 years with Ginger. In those 9 years she has done countless classes, became a stylist manager, and as of 2018 became a co-owner of Ginger Salon.
In her personal life, she is an avid reader and always looking to go on a new adventure with her long time partner, Cliff and their son, Ellis (3).
Graduating from Cosmetology school in 2001, Nicki finished her extensive Vidal Sassoon focused apprenticeship and became certified through the Vidal Sassoon Academy in San Diego in 2003.
Her background is full of big and bold experiences from working with Allure Magazine, to providing personal services to the former vice president’s wife, Tipper Gore; while also staying active in the competitive hair dressing scene in Southern California.
She stays up to date with the industry though continued education now living among the creative types in the PNW.
Nicki is sensitive to personalizing each clients cut and/or color to complement their lifestyle, individuality, and personal taste. To her, there is no privilege bigger then empowering the women in her community with bad ass hair.
She enjoys exploring new music, dance parties, karaoke, local beer and the best food that Portland has to offer.
Joy attended the Aveda Institute of Portland in 2012. She came to Ginger Salon fresh out of beauty school and killed it in the Ginger apprenticeship program.
Today she’s killing it as a Master Stylist and Ginger Salon’s assistant manager. Joy loves cutting and coloring equally and relishes in creating balance and beauty within a head of hair.
Joy lives in the Russell neighborhood with her husband Brad and their daughter Verla, who was born in April of 2017. They have two FIV+ cats and two rescue dogs. They vacuum a lot.
Ginger Salon places a premium on education. In addition to completing the intensive Ginger Salon apprenticeship program, Joy has received advanced training through Kevin Murphy, the Goldwell Academy in Santa Monica, and the Sassoon Academy in San Francisco.

My main goal and reason for becoming a stylist is making people feel wonderful about their hair! I feel like I am able to talk with each of my clients to create a realistic goal of their best style. I also can let them in on any of the binge worthy shows worth watching or show them countless photos of my dogs, Jameson & Shelby!
I have been in the industry since 2009 and a stylist at Ginger Salon since 2012. My love has evolved for hair over the years & i feel so lucky to continue my education with advanced training in Kevin Murphy, Goldwell & at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica.
My clients’ hair ranges from effortless & natural to vibrant & edgy, & any fabulous hair in between.
When I am not at Ginger, I spend most of my time with my husband, two dogs & friends. I love high-intensity workouts, incredible food & being outside as much as possible. (BUT I also love naps & Netflix).
Abigail arrived in Portland in 2008, a proud transplant from Kansas City, Missouri.
She began her craft over 15 years ago at The Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, California. The foundation of her approach is precision-based haircutting and integrity-based hair coloring techniques. She views cyber-education as revolutionary to the hair industry, and learns something new to share with her clients every day. Her desire to surround herself with the best, and her commitment to lessen her global footprint, are what brought her to the classy, sassy, earth-friendly, Ginger Salon!
Abigail has a special love for the curly girls and especially enjoys creating lived-in, modern hair shapes, and fresh, graceful color. She considers herself a “scalp whisperer” for the angry and the itchy, the oily and the flared up scalps running around all over the Portland-metro. Clients rave about her scalp massages and love that it's okay to be quiet in her chair.
In her free time, Abigail enjoys spending her summers lounging on river rocks, her winters reading, rainy days on bicycle, and sunny days in bed. She is a Capricorn, who makes quick decisions about hair, and slow decisions about everything else in life. It took her 9 years to decide to apply to Ginger Salon.
You could say she's pretty happy to be here.
Reegan was born and raised in San Diego, and moved up to Portland in 2014. After graduating Aveda Institute Portland in 2016, Reegan wanted to learn from the best, which lead her to Ginger Salon.
Reegan is a Lead Stylist at Ginger. In addition to completing an intensive apprenticeship program under Master stylist Joy and Stina, she has had the opportunity to attend many advanced training classes with Goldwell, Kevin Murphy, SR Eduction, Vidal Sassoon Academy Santa Monica, Ect.
Reegan loves to help her clients achieve dimensional reds, vibrant blondes, epic bangs, and soft bouncy curls.
When Reegan isn’t being a hair champion you can find her at the Oregon Human Society volunteering with the pups, sun chasing in her local parks, or cuddled up with her kitties on a raining day binging a new true crime documentary.
Zack was born and raised in South Florida and just moved to Portland in 2018. He has been specializing in cutting and styling for five years, with a strong fondness for cutting curly hair and precision cuts. Being from Florida, Zack gives big, bouncy, sexy blowouts that can last through the most humid climates and will leave you looking ready to enjoy brunch mimosas under your poolside cabana. He enjoys collaborating with his clients, working to really help them bring out their own personal styles as well as enhancing facial features such as bone structures. Outside of fine hair artistry, Zack enjoys makeup, nail polish, animals and wildlife, being a drag queen, worldly cuisines, tequila shots, and laughing with his good time gals.
14 years ago and 1,100mi south of here in San Diego, the beauty industry gained a Beau.
Yes it’s his real name, no it’s not short for anything.
He’s the guy who’s had his hands in all things beauty since then which is how a real Gemini rolls. If there’s an interesting new hat to be worn he’s bound to try it out...sewing, wake surfing, swapping out light fixtures, whatevs.
Like it tends to do, the PNW beckoned as a new frontier and he loves exploring its unique charms. He didn’t see snow until he was 26, but don’t hold that against him.
Spending 7 years as a certified educator for Aveda means he always has a trick up his sleeve and delivers Portland’s finest the custom, clean, wearable styles they’ve been looking for. Beau doesn’t specialize in one thing, he specializes in everything. (#murillomethod)
When not connecting with clients he’s fond of driving around town with coffee and OPB* on the radio, all things Michael Crichton and being a single parent to Earnest the cat.
*the same 90’s jams he hasn’t stopped listening to since middle school.
Before beginning to work at Ginger Salon, May had explored many paths, most of which had nothing to do with hair or working in the beauty industry. Although she had always wanted to do hair and makeup, she went to the University of Oregon and received a Bachelor's Degree in Humanities. After teaching preschool for a year, she realized all she ever thought about other than work was doing hair. So, she started school at the Aveda Institute Portland and became licensed in October 2019.
Upon learning about Ginger, May was in love with the salon after her first job shadow at the NE location. A strong emphasis on education as well as environmental and community responsibility were really important to her and Ginger Salon ticked both of those boxes, plus more!
Behind the chair, May loves hair cutting. Pixie cuts and short styles are near and dear to her heart, but she also loves crisp bobs, textured lobs, shags, the occasional fashion mullet, and classic styles like long layers and effortless movement. She likes to use a mix of tools, such as shears and a razor to create these cuts. May also really enjoys handpainting balayage highlights, too!
When she's not at the salon, you can find May hanging out with her longtime boyfriend, Chris, and their orange tabby cat Fiona (A.K.A. Cinnamon Apple Muffin). She also enjoys drinking way too much coffee, needlepoint crafts, eating lots of salty snacks (Fritos Honey BBQ Twists are everything), watching spooky ghost movies, and buying bath products.
Molly started her beauty career in 2012 at the Cinta Aveda institute in San Francisco. She had been bouncing around different majors in college when she made the decision to turn her textbooks in for scissors and head to beauty school. Doing hair gave her the freedom to be creative as well as help people feel good about themselves…win win!
After hair school, she completed an intensive apprenticeship at a busy Bay Area salon. There, she was trained in Vidal Sassoon and DevaCurl cutting. She developed a love for curls, blondification, and all things hair! She became an educator for the same apprenticeship that had previously kicked her butt, as well a trainer for Davines North America. She loves education, and believes in learning all the rules so that she can break them! She also believes that there are no rules in hair.
After working in San Fransisco and Berkeley salons for 7 years, Molly recently decided it was time for a big change. She packed up her two furry roommates and headed to Portland to be a part of the Ginger team.
Molly is a food who drinks too much coffee. During the 6 months that salons in California were closed last year, she took up just about every trendy hobby. She adopted two kittens, embarrassed herself on roller-skates, started biking in neon spandex, and got pretty into comic books. She loves to make beaded jewelry and is usually wearing a pair of her custom earrings.
Growing up in the harsh climate of Juneau, Alaska, having flippin great hair wasn’t on the top of most people’s priority lists! But Paige has always had an eye for it regardless, and has been playing with hair ever since her Barbie mannequins finally agreed to let her come near them with “hair cutting” scissors found in the kitchen.
Paige graduated from an alternative high school with only 46 other graduates. She loved being somewhere everyone looked out for each other, and continues to search for environments of that sort to this day. Paige moved to Portland when she was 18 and started the full cosmetology program at Paul Mitchell in downtown Portland. She loves esthetics, nails, and makeup as much as the next guy but hair is where she found her *spark*
Paige is a people pleaser and is so excited to make your hair dreams come true. Upon licensure, Paige completed a one on one apprenticeship with Eileen Halme at Maven Beauty Lab which furthered her drive to succeed and work on new techniques. Ginger Salon will be her first “big girl” salon job and she’s so grateful for everything that’s put her on this path.
Paige is a Cancer/Scorpio rising and loves to talk astrology. In her free time she enjoys playing Animal Crossing or Sims, cuddling her wooly baby (a fluffy tabby, not a mammoth), going on walks through the cemetery with her best friend, or watching YouTube videos ranging from true crime stories told while doing makeup to old abandoned building tours across the world.
Paige wants you to remember to make good choices, mask up, and she can’t wait to have you in her chair!

Dakota has always known she has wanted to do hair since she was a freshman in high school, she was always the girl in the back of the class braiding everyone’s hair.
Growing up in Oregon for majority of her life she has gained a love for the outdoors. If she isn’t doing hair you can find her on the hiking trails, paddle boarding, or at the coast.
At the young age of 14 Dakota moved from Portland to Arizona, where she not only got the opportunity to learn about the diverse culture but the chance to see a different perspective on life as a whole.
Dakota loves anything blonde related, from balayages to baby lights. Blonde is her passion. Being a blonde herself she understands the process and is highly skilled and knowledgeable about blonding.
Lindsey was born and raised in Oregon. She loves the laid back west coast vibe, which is reflected in her style and approach to hair. She was recruited from cosmetology school in 2012 to Seattle, and completed a competitive apprenticeship under Graham Breakwell.
After four years in the luxury hair scene of the PNW She accepted a position to a luxury salon in the Middle East. This began her career as an international stylist. She completed another one year apprenticeship with European artists, and continued to work within an Expat melting pot for another four years.
Lindsey found that working with all different hair types, personalities, and cultures was truly a magical experience. She is always striving to further her skills to help bring her clients vision to life. It's her goal to help each person bloom into their greatest version of themselves with hair that suites bone structure, lifestyle, and personal aesthetic. Hair that is a celebration of who you are. She loves soft textures all the way to bold lines. She also has a soft spot for brides and anything romantic and ethereal.
When not in the salon Lindsey loves to create mixed media art, dance, fitness, and hanging out with her husband & son. She's also obsessed with the ocean, forest and large amounts of body glitter.
Gage floated down from Southeast Alaska in the summer of 2017, looking for a taste of city life, queer community and a new career path. They found all of those things and couldn’t be happier with where they’ve landed. When it comes to hair, Gage likes it all. It is their goal to have a no-favorites attitude within the spectrum of hair services - that being said, they currently feel most excited about short, edgy cuts, balayage, and bold colors!
When they aren’t busy making people feel pretty, Gage enjoys socializing with friends, lounging on bar patios, running around the city in drag, biking, and giving their 20lb cat belly rubs.
Special talents include (but are not limited to): one-legged squats, pyrography, the perfect smokey eye, cat whispering, singing (allegedly) and the Vault of Death.

Summer has loved playing with hair as long as she can remember. Whether that was braiding every head of hair she could get her hands on, or experimenting dying her hair with all the different types of Kool-Aid. Summer attended cosmetology school in Miami, Florida, and after graduating she moved to Portland, where she found her home at Ginger Salon. Her favorite things to do with hair are bright vivid colors, beachy blondes, and cuts ranging from lived-in natural to fun and funky. In her free time you can find her playing with her little Japanese Chin, Joey, out hiking in the mountains, or at home cringe-watching bad horror movies.
Ligeia sees you: the best looking, most confident you, and that's what got her into hair. Born and raised in New York City, she spent over a decade styling clients in Manhattan and Brooklyn. She understands how looking your best makes you feel your best so you can take on any challenge life throws your way. A forest spirit at heart, Ligeia moved to Portland in 2016, where she continued collaborating with her clients to bring out their deep, inner magic. In her 16 years in the hair industry, she's served in lead stylist, education, and management roles. She was thrilled to level up her experience as part of the team at Ginger Salon!
Ligeia's life beyond the styling chair is all about compassion, creativity, and critters. A lifelong animal lover, she currently shares her home with three ridiculous, outspoken guinea pigs and a wise, plant loving box turtle. She totally wants to pet your dog. An avid reader, she went to school for English and Journalism before switching to hair and brings a storyteller's inquisitiveness to everything she does. She's passionate about art, loves live music and comedy, and can be found hanging out at the Hollywood Theater anytime they're screening new and classic horror movies.

DeDe started their cosmetology journey when they were just a little one. Playing with all six of their siblings' hair, they couldn’t help but fall in love with the aspect of beauty. After years of doing their family’s and friends’ hair, they were ready to get out of their small town and make it a real profession. Going into cosmetology school in 2018, at Aveda Institute of Portland, they were determined to show their clients their beauty from within so they can shine on the outside.
On their off time they enjoy collecting eccentric outfits, nourishing their friendships and creating themselves into extremely unworldly creatures with makeup and costumes. Every chance they get to have fun, they’re going to take it. Special talents they bless the world with are: making a mean eggs benedict, knowing every single word to “Lucky” by Britney Spears, and dancing the night away with their sick moves.
You might know Darren by his distinct vocal stylings on the Ginger Salon phone. With Taylor by his side he is able to make sure Ginger Salon runs like a well oiled machine. From making sure the salons are stocked with all the essentials, to answering your calls, and even running personal errands for our fearless leader, Deanna, he does it all. We are not only blessed to have him but you are blessed to know him.
Brontë comes as a Office Assistant who knows two things:
- that finding time to slow down, reset, and do things that make us feel better--inside and out--is vital to our health, reconnection to ourselves, and general enjoyment of life; and
- that scheduling that time can be TOUGH.
Knowing this, it is her aim to make all your wildest appointment-scheduling dreams come true. (Or at the very least, as seamless as physically possible.)
Have a question? Ask her! Need a few options to decide which day is best? She'll make a list. Is Freckles acting salty again? Let her know. She's happy to help in whatever way she can, because getting your hair done should be enjoyable, even when you're scheduling. Let's get you booked!
When she's not slinging appointments, Brontë enjoys baking new things with her little, writing down random thoughts that could one day be stories, figuring out puzzles and what really is the appropriate weekly consumption level of kombucha, and the occasional hard stare at a good wall.
Connoisseur of button-ups and long spurts of giggling, Dana is here at Ginger to take care of all your scheduling needs! Lover of people and old mysteries, Dana studied World History focusing on gender and sexuality at CSU Long Beach. During the pandemic, they moved to Portland to get a short haircut and hopefully make people’s days a little better. Their hope is to meaningfully connect with all corners of their community and to help people feel cared for and seen.
In their free time, Dana likes making playlists for their friends (or that feeling they had 5 years ago) and trying to decipher the lyrics of Cocteau Twins songs. They enjoy baking treats, hanging out with the pet at the party, planting herbs, and a nice foamy cappuccino. Dana would like to travel the world but isn’t sure who will look after their granny’s vinyl and their many art history books once they are gone. Give Dana a call on the weekend if you would like to make an appointment or if you would just like to talk about the paranormal, ephemeral things that we just can’t explain.
